Lalela Scarf

Lalela is a nonprofit organization that provides educational arts programs for youth in under-resourced communities in South Africa. Through creative expression, learners develop confidence, critical thinking, and the skills to envision brighter futures.

The Lalela Scarf is a fundraising initiative that transforms artwork created by Lalela learners into limited-edition silk scarves. 100% of the proceeds support Lalela's arts education programs while celebrating the creativity and unique perspectives of the young artists.

I transform collections of learner artwork into cohesive textile designs by curating illustrations, refining compositions, developing repeat patterns, and preparing artwork for production. My process balances technical precision with a deep respect for each child's original creative expression, resulting in textiles that celebrate their stories while supporting Lalela's mission. I have worked alongside Lalela’s Creative Director for the better part of the past decade to make these designs - for a full catalogue of current designs (and to support Lalela’s amazing programs) please visit lalelascarf.org

Below is a selection of some of my favorite completed designs, printed onto tablecloths, scarves, pajamas and more - and the children’s artworks that inspired them.
